DUI and traffic defense, Reno

Stopped. Tested. Charged. Now what?

Send me the date of the stop and what you were charged with. I'll call or text you back the same day with the deadline you're up against, what the next month looks like, and what I'd charge.

What would help first?
Do you drive for work?

Leave out what you drank, said or did. The date and the charge are enough until we talk.

Not ready for an intake?

Ask me one question first

Plenty of people want one answer before they give a lawyer their details: whether they can still drive to work, whether a commercial license changes things, what a hearing costs. Ask it and I'll answer it myself.

Choose the one-question option in the intake form above, or write to me from the contact page.

What I take on

Driving charges, and nothing else

Every case I take starts with a car, a road and a stop. That focus is why I know the courts, the hearing officers and the paperwork as well as I do.

  • DUI

A first arrest or a repeat one, breath or blood, with or without an accident.

    DUI defense
  • License hearings

The separate case over your license, with its own short deadline to ask for a hearing.

    About the hearing
  • Commercial drivers

A ticket or a DUI on a CDL, where one conviction can cost you the job.

    CDL tickets
  • Reckless driving

A charge that sits between a ticket and a crime, and is treated like one.

    Reckless driving
  • Traffic tickets

Speeding, a red light, no insurance: the ones that add points and raise your rates.

    Fighting a ticket
  • Drivers under 21

A lower limit and stiffer license rules. A parent is welcome on every call.

Fees

The fee, before you sign anything

A set fee for a DUI and a quote for each ticket, given on the first call. Either can be paid over time.

  • A set fee for a first DUI

One fee from the license hearing through the last court date, plea or trial.

    • Asking for the license hearing, and the hearing

    • Video, test and calibration records

    • Every court date, plea or trial

  • Tickets for people who drive for work

Truck, delivery and rideshare drivers can't carry points. Send me the ticket and I'll quote it before you pay the fine.

  • What's separate

Fines, court fees, classes, an evaluation and any expert are separate, and you'd owe them whoever you hired. A repeat DUI or a case with an injury is quoted on its own.

From drivers

What it was like to call

“I texted from a parking lot at six in the morning. She called back before eight and had me ask for the hearing that afternoon. I'd never have known there was a deadline.”

Dustin K.First DUI

“I drive a tanker. One ticket on my license and I'm off the schedule. Roxanne got it moved to a day I wasn't on a run and walked me through every step by text.”

Arturo P.Commercial driver

“My son was nineteen. She talked to him like an adult, and to me like a parent, and told us both what was coming before it came.”

Lorraine V.Parent of a driver under 21

Sample comments. Every case turns on its own facts, and what happened for these drivers doesn't predict what will happen in yours.

The first week

What people ask right after a stop

Is my license already gone?

Usually not yet. Most drivers get a temporary permit or a notice, and a short window to ask for a hearing about the license. Ask in time and you can often keep driving while the hearing is pending. Miss it and the suspension can start on its own.

How long do I have to ask for the license hearing?

Days, not weeks, and the clock starts on the day of the stop, not the day you're charged. The exact number depends on the state and on what's written on your notice. Send me the date and I'll tell you how many days you have left.

Should I just plead guilty and get it over with?

Not before someone has read the report and watched the video. A plea is permanent, and it can cost you more than the fine: insurance, a commercial license, a job. Reading the file first costs you nothing but a few days.

Do I have to go to court?

For a ticket I can often appear for you. For a DUI you'll be in court at least once, and I'll be there beside you each time. You'll know every date well ahead.

Can you promise I'll keep my license, or that it'll be dismissed?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. What I can promise is that every deadline is met, every record is asked for, and you hear the honest odds before you decide anything.
