Questions
Answers about DUI, licenses and tickets
General answers. Your notice, your record and your court change the details, so ask about yours.
DUI
What should I do in the first 24 hours after a DUI stop?
Find every piece of paper you were handed and keep it together. Write down the time and place of the stop and anything you remember while it's fresh, for yourself, not for a form. Then call or text a lawyer about the license deadline.
Can a DUI be reduced to something else?
Sometimes, depending on the evidence, your record and the court. It's never a given, and nobody can promise it. Reading the file tells us whether it's a realistic aim.
Will a DUI show up on a background check?
A conviction usually will. An arrest that doesn't end in a conviction may still appear, and some records can later be sealed. We can talk about sealing once the case is over.
License
Can I drive to work while my license is suspended?
Sometimes, with a restricted permit or an ignition interlock. It depends on the state, the reason for the suspension and your record. Ask early: the permit has its own steps.
My license is from another state. What happens?
States share suspensions with each other, so a suspension here usually follows you home. I can usually handle the Nevada side without you flying back.
Tickets
How many points is my ticket?
It depends on the violation and the state that issued your license. Send me a photo of the ticket and I'll tell you what it would add and what fighting it might save.
Fees
Do you take tickets for commercial drivers?
Yes. Truck, delivery and rideshare drivers are a large part of the practice. Each ticket is quoted on its own before you pay the fine, with what it means for your license or CDL.
What does the DUI fee not include?
Fines, court fees, classes, an alcohol evaluation and any expert are separate, and you'd owe them whoever you hired. An appeal is quoted separately too.
